On a MacBook the notch is dead space, while the things worth a glance — what's playing, a download finishing, whether a coding agent is still working — are scattered across the menu bar and separate windows. Anything that lives at the notch is on screen all day, so it has to stay quiet when nothing is happening and cost almost nothing to run.

Driving the equaliser from SwiftUI kept the panel re-rendering on every display frame. Each bar now runs as a Core Animation handed to the render server, and the app's CPU use while music plays dropped from 12–14% to 3%.
macOS has no public system-wide Now Playing API, and the private framework was locked down in macOS 15.4. Bondex asks Music and Spotify through their scripting dictionaries, and asks the browser tab holding the audio for its media session.

Each app needs an Automation permission on first use, browsers need “Allow JavaScript from Apple Events” switched on once, and Firefox cannot be supported at all.
Each Apple Event property is a separate round trip, so reading tabs one at a time cost 1.1 seconds per call. Fetching every tab's URL in a single event brought the same read down to about 185 ms.
Coding agents are found by executable name wherever they are installed, and shown as merely “Open” unless a hook reports what they are doing — agents spend most of a turn waiting on the network, so CPU usage cannot tell you.
Without the optional hook Bondex can only say an agent is running, not whether it is thinking — so it says that rather than guessing.
